13 million people facing the worst famine in 60 years. 3.3 million people in Somalia alone need life-saving intervention. People around the world are uniting to write a new destiny for Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia. The International Disaster Response Network is delivering food to communities ravaged by famine, and helping families take steps toward long-term food security. You can make a difference and save a life by contributing to our cause. What we are doing: Half a million meals are already en route to Kenya. We are also purchasing local food supplies to support East African farmers and build confidence in local resources. Finally, long term agricultural initiatives like fruit orchards, reforestation, and drip irrigation projects will establish sustainable food supply chains, and make communities much less vulnerable to drought and other unpredictable weather conditions. A team of nutritionists from Brazil is combatting child malnutrition by visiting poor communities to explain how different foods affect the body. Parents are learning what kinds of foods are necessary for their children to grow, and how to recognize warning signs that their children might not be receiving the right kind of nourishment. Physicians are curbing the effects of the food shortage by showing families how to properly store and prepare food, how to know if drinking water is safe, and how to prevent disease spread by contaminated food.
